Description: Extensive pine-oak forests are interrupted by Atlantic white cedar swamps and hardwood swamps of red (swamp) maple and sour gum trees. Wells Mills Lake, like all lakes in the Pinelands, is man made.

Wildlife to Watch: White-tailed deer, raccoons, red and gray foxes, fowler’s toads, northern fence lizards, eastern hognose snakes, and eastern box turtles are all residents here. Tundra swans frequent the lake in the fall, along with ducks during migration.

Other Activities: The park has 10 miles of hiking trails and an observation deck in the nature center that offers a view of the lake.

The park is open from 8 a.m. to sunset every day, while the nature center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Rent a canoe, or take the 0.7mile walk from the nature center to a waterfowl observation blind. There is also a short trail for the visually impaired, which uses a guide rope and tape player to indicate special objects to be felt, smelled, or heard.

Driving Directions: From the junction of New Jersey 72 and County Route 532, travel 3.5 miles on CR 532 to park entrance on right.
