Fish Creek Trail
Description: Fish Creek Trail drops into a narrow forested canyon from a high bench that overlooks both the Black River and Fish Creek drainages. Once on the floor of the canyon, the trail wanders downstream along Fish Creek past pools, riffles, and stepping-stone stream crossings to the point where this tributary joins the Black River.

Wildlife to Watch: Fish Creek harbors a population of Arizona's state fish, the Apache trout. You may see black bear, elk, mule deer, porcupine, Abert’s squirrel, golden-mantled ground squirrel, Merriam’s turkey, northern goshawk, peregrine falcon, Mexican spotted owl, and an amazing variety of resident and migratory songbirds, including Williamson’s and red-naped sapsucker, Townsend’s solitaire, Steller’s jay, plumbeous and warbling vireos, red-breasted and pygmy nuthatches, American dipper, Grace’s and red-faced warblers, western tanager, and black-headed grosbeak. Reptiles and amphibians of the area include Arizona treefrog, western chorus frog, northern leopard frog, greater short-horned lizard, plateau striped whiptail, Madrean alligator lizard, ring-necked snake, narrow-headed gartersnake, Sonoran mountain kingsnake, and Arizona black rattlesnake.
