Alchesay National Fish Hatchery
Description: Alchesay National Fish Hatchery is located in the picturesque canyon of the North Fork of the White River on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation at an elevation of 5,400 feet. Self guided tours of the hatchery are offered.

Wildlife to Watch: A great abundance and variety of birds can be seen in and around the fish raceways and ponds. Bald eagle, osprey, common merganser, ring-necked duck, and bufflehead can reliably be seen here during fall and winter. Common summer birds include the great blue heron, broad-tailed hummingbird, rufous hummingbird, acorn woodpecker, and Merriam’s turkey.

Special Tips: When traveling through Native American lands, observe tribal regulations.

Driving Directions:
Travel east from Pinetop/Lakeside on State Hwy. 260 for 2 miles to the Hon-Dah junction. Turn south on State Hwy. 73, go 15 miles to the Alchesay NFH Road. Turn east and follow the signs 4 miles to the hatchery.
