Sturgeon Trail
Description: Few places on earth can boast the annual spawning of enormous lake sturgeon. The Lake Winnebago system has the world’s largest single concentration of these amazing fish.

Wildlife to Watch: The early springtime spawning of lake sturgeon in an exciting event not to be missed. These prehistoric giants have survived to modern times and annually swim upstream from Lake Winnebego to spawn on the rocky shorelines of the Wolf and Embarrass rivers. The event is dependent on water temperature, but typically occurs for several days between late April and early May when waterflow is high. Call ahead for details.

Driving Directions:
Area A: (URBAN) Pfeifer Park in New London. Take WI 45 north. Turn right onto Waupaca St., and follow to Embarrass Dr.; turn left. Go to Pfeifer Park and walk along south edge of Embarrass River. Area B: Travel about 2 miles west of New London on County Hwy. X. Park in DNR Mukwa Wildlife Area parking lot on south side of highway and walk along south edge of Wolf River. USE CAUTION ON HIGHWAY.
