Red Willow Reservoir
Description: A reservoir on Red willow Creek, surrounded by rolling grasslands, brushy draws, and tree plantings, mostly cedar and shrubs such as chokecherry and wild plum.

Wildlife to Watch: Red Willow is one of the best public areas in the state for viewing black-tailed prairie dogs. It is a good site to view white-tailed and mule deer, waterfowl (particularly mallards, pintails, and other dabbling ducks), and occasionally quail and turkeys. It is also a good site to view grassland and shrub species such as loggerhead shrikes and grasshopper sparrows.

Special Tips: Roads are relatively good; some may be impassable in wet weather. Use good judgement. Maps of trails and facilities are available at the concession areas.

Other Activities: Best viewing is by driving the interior roads to the reservoir’s more remote areas. There are several prairie dog towns around the reservoir; two of the most accessible are at the north end of the Bluegill Arm and near the Spring Creek concession area.
