Erie National Wildlife Refuge
Description: Erie National Wildlife Refuge is truly a natural gem of Pennsylvania, teeming with wildlife and wild lands and offering opportunities for the public to experience nature in all seasons. Over 2500 acres of wetland, including beaver ponds, marshes, swamps, manmade impoundments, creeks and wet meadows, provide desirable habitat for a variety of migratory birds and waterfowl.

Wildlife to Watch: The diverse habitat types found on Erie NWR attract over 237 species of birds, 47 species of mammals and 37 species of amphibians and reptiles. Waterfowl migrations occur from March to early April and again from September to November.

There are five nature trails ranging in length from one-half mile to three miles, one of which is ADA accessible. Other public use facilities include an auto driving route, a waterfowl and wildlife observation blind, an observation deck with spotting scopes and the Deer Run Overlook.

Special Tips: The refuge has a visitor contact station with a 40-seat auditorium that includes an indoor bird observation area.
