|Description: This site presents a rare mix of marshy meadow habitat with dense coniferous forest. The willow-lined Musselshell Creek flows through boggy meadows and past an old mill pond. The area has a wide diversity of wildlife, especially in spring and summer.|
Wildlife to Watch: Moose with calves, elk, mule and white-tailed deer, otter, woodpeckers, and waterfowl are common. Follow the nature trail; move quietly to limit wildlife disturbance. Look for warblers and vireos in the willows and phalaropes and American bitterns in waterside vegetation. On early spring mornings, listen for the call of Wilson’s snipe and the honks of transitory snow geese.
This one of the few areas in Idaho that supports fishers, a species that inhabits mature coniferous forests.
Special Tips: Road 100 is not maintained during the winter. Always be prepared for inclement weather. Bring appropriate clothing and footwear
