Moose Flats
Description: Located in Portage Valley on the neck of the Kenai Peninsula, Moose Flats Day Use Area is one of many stops along the Portage Highway. At this developed site you will find picnic areas along the ponds, these ponds are a popular swimming hole for locals on the rare warm summer Alaska day.

Wildlife to Watch: There is a short boardwalk trail through wetlands and ponds. Birders can find many species of interest; bald eagles are common, including some nesting pairs. A variety of shorebirds, such as common snipe and yellow legs use the valley. Seabirds including arctic terns and gulls also can be seen. Waterfowl are also found here and you may see moose, beaver, or muskrats enjoying the wetlands. During the winter months this is a great place to spot moose and access the Trail of Blue Ice for a nice cross country ski.
