White Horse Lake - Pine Flat Route

Wildlife to Watch: Mule deer and elk are found in the area; during spring, see these as well as wild turkey. Bald eagles are common in the winter, and osprey and great blue heron nest at both lakes in the summer. You can also see violet-green and tree swallows, double-crested cormorant and a wide variety of waterfowl on both lakes. During the summer, purple martins and violet-green swallows frequently forage over the lakes. Other birds in the surrounding forests include broad-tailed hummingbird, acorn and hairy woodpeckers, western wood-pewee, plumbeous vireo, Steller’s jay, western bluebird, mountain chickadees, white-breasted and pygmy nuthatches, and dark-eyed junco.
