| |  |  Rothsay WMA |  | Description: Rothsay WMA is located near Rothsay, MN, in Wilkin County, is a large expanse of native prairie that preserves some of Minnesota’s unique prairie heritage. Habitats include sedge meadows, prairie wetlands, mesic tallgrass prairie with brushy areas and aspen clones interspersed. Prairie birds of all kinds can be seen here, including American Bittern, Horned Lark, Sedge Wren, Bobolink, Western Meadowlark and Yellow-headed Blackbird. |  | Wildlife to Watch: 125 bird species have been observed here, and the site is nominated as an “important bird area.” Rare bird species known to occur here include: Wilson’s Phalarope, Nelson’s Sharp-tailed Sparrow, Yellow Rail, Marbled Godwit, Baird’s Sparrow, Henslow’s Sparrow, Upland Sandpiper and Loggerhead Shrike. | Special Tips: Prairie Chicken booming is mid-April through mid-May.
