Quigley Wildlife Area
The Quigley Wildlife Area encloses a remnant slough of the Gila River in the middle of the Sonoran Desert, one of the driest areas in North America. The area provides magnificent views across the Gila River floodplain to the Castle Dome, Palomas and other mountain ranges.

Betty's Kitchen
Description: The Betty’s Kitchen National Recreation Trail winds through dense riparian vegetation past a fishing pier and over a rugged metal bridge. The site is next to historic Laguna Dam, the first dam built on the Colorado River.

Wildlife to Watch: Waterfowl visit the area during the winter, and migratory birds visit the area during spring, fall, and early winter. The best seasons to visit are between March and May, and from late August through October when impressive numbers of migratory species such as flycatchers, warblers, vireos, tanagers, buntings, grosbeaks, and sparrows can be found. Resident species include American coot, Abert’s towhee, green heron, Gambel’s quail, Gila and ladder-backed woodpeckers, verdin, cactus wren, black-tailed gnatcatcher, and phainopepla. Other wildlife that may be seen includes desert cottontail, rock squirrel, desert spiny lizard, ornate tree lizard, tiger whiptail, common kingsnake, and western diamond-backed rattlesnake.

Special Tips: A 1/2 -mile interpretive loop trail provides universal accessibility.

Driving Directions:
From Yuma, go 7 miles east on US Hwy. 95 to Avenue 7E (Laguna Dam Road). Turn north and follow this road for 9 miles past Laguna Dam. Turn left and follow the signs.
