Description: A 4-mile long peninsula separates Great Bay and Little Egg Harbor at the mouth of the Mullica River where it meets the Little Egg Inlet to the Atlantic Ocean. It is an excellent area for birding in all seasons. The Boulevard travels straight across this spit of land, offering vistas over the salt marsh to your left and right. Narrow, sandy beaches at the end of the peninsula provide additional birding opportunities.

Wildlife to Watch: From the parking area at the end of the peninsula, walk to the edge of the bay with your binoculars and spotting scopes for views of the wintering rafts of waterfowl on the bay. Look for mergansers, buffleheads, and old squaws. Crabs, mussels, and clams are right at your feet, especially at low tide. Stop anywhere along the road to scan the marshes and mud flats for sandpipers, willets, plovers, yellowlegs, oyster catchers, black skimmers, and ospreys in the spring, summer, and fall. Look for brant in the fall and winter, and American black ducks, northern harriers, gulls, and terns anytime.

Special Tips: Do not stop on the one-way bridges along the boulevard; there are plenty of places to pull off. Natural are with no facilities. OPEN FOR HUNTING DURING PRESCRIBED SEASONS.
